Montera Albo (Monstera deliciosa var. borgisiana ‘Albo-Variegata”) is a rare and highly sought-after variety known for its dark green and stunning white marbled leaves.
Care of Monstera Albo
- Light: This variety needs 6 hours of bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight may easily scorch the white, chlorophyll-lacking parts of the leaves.
- Water: Water when the top 2-3″ of soil feels dry. This variety is a slow grower because the leaves have less chlorophyll. They are also more prone to root rot.
- Soil & Fertilizer: Use a chunky, well-draining aroid mix (like peat, perlite, and orchid bark). Use a balanced liquid fertilizer to feed during the growing season, which is from spring through early fall.
- Support: This is a vining climber so it will do well and produce larger leaves if it has a moss pole or trellis for climbing.
Common Problems to keep an eye out for:
- Brown Edges: The white parts of the leaves are delicate and prone to browing or crisping if the humidity is not high enough.
- Reversion: If this variety does not get enough light, the leaves may revert to solid green. Prune the vine back to a stem that does have strong variegation to encourage new growth of white-splashed, variegated leaves.
